The Amazing Trout

We got the chemicals to the right level in the tank.  The self feeder feeds automatically twice a day. We cleaned out the old fish poop and food. We took water from the tank. We put chemicals in the water samples. The fish got a lot bigger and are fat. We cleaned the tank with a big tube. It was a very fun experience.

The Great Trout

We finally got the nitrite levels down and the ammonia down that is good! The trout are really BIG now, it is cool how big they are getting.  The tank was so dirty that we had to spend two days of are recess to clean out the tank.    The tank water should between 52 and 53 degrees.  Everything is normal and 0ppm.

Trout

This week the nitrite was really high.  This week there was 0 ammonia in the tank.  While taking the water samples we were worried about sucking up the trout.=).  The trout are doing good. We are taking good care of the trout.=). Happy Holidays!

Trout

This week there was high ammonia and  nitrite in the water.  We changed the water and cleaned the tank through out the week.  We found out we might be getting more trout if the Nitrite and ammonia levels go down more.  We only have about 10 fish left so that is why we need more trout.  This week we also learned how to test the water.  Our ammonia  levels went WAY down, from around 4.0 to around 0. Hopefully the new fish will do better than the fish we have now.

Halloween

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Thanks to our librarians we had a place to raise our trout!  Not only did they give us space in the library, they also got into the project on Halloween.  They both dressed up as trout fisherman!  The children got a huge kick out of this!  See the picture below of their wonderful costumes!

Our trout are doing amazing!  There are a ton swimming around, and they are full of energy.

Mr. Farmer

Mr. Doug Framer came to Ritchie today to speak to the classes about the trout.  He spoke to every single classroom in the school about conservation, the parts of the fish tank, and the trout themselves.  The students asked many questions  and learned a lot about our project!  Our trout are still in the Fry stage and are not very active.  Check back often for updated information and pictures!
